Symantec Firewall/VPN 200R Brief Observation

Symantec Firewall/VPN 200R - this appliance firewall is user friendly, easy to use but limited capability compared to Sonicwall and PIX firewall. The recommended maximum users in Symantec is 30 but you can still use more than that but the capability of the system degraded. It has eight LAN ports 10/100 Mbps Autodetect, Two WAN port for Load Balancing but not stable specially when surfing e-commerce or secured website because when we set the outgoing connection to WAN port 1 and incoming for WAN port 2 the page that you are browsing will expire because of the sudden change of IP and secured website will not allow. In my little experienced we were using 40 plus workstation and for the first few hours of the day with heavy traffic, the Symantec can stand out but sometimes the system will give up and you need a hard reset to back for normal operation. The good thing also when we reset this firewall appliance it takes only a few seconds.About configuration of SMTP, HTTP, HTTPS etc. it is very friendly compared to others. You know it is normal for me when I saw a strange experienced in Symantec, sometimes the appliance hang up and I saw somebody penetrated the firewall and all I have to do is hard reset and record the IP for future use, I cannot counter the attacker or defend because of the limitation of Symantec firewall. In my observation this appliance is recommended for small business, affordable and easy to use.Firewall features• Eight LAN ports • Two WAN ports • No hard user limit, but recommended for offices with up to 30 users • Traffic/connectivity and error lights • Serial port for auto-modem backup • Power Indicator LED Lights when the power is supplied to the unit • DIP switches Used for disabling the DHCP Server, resetting the unit, activating the Serial Console Interface, and configuring the Symantec Firewall/VPN for firmware upgrades • Error LED indicator • LAN/WAN Transmit/Receive Lights when data is transferred between the WAN and LAN • Load balancing • Backup Active LED Lights when the ISDN/Analog backup feature is in progress (when broadband has dropped)Loida Lacaba vdot35_00@yahoo.ca Chaos Biz Page
